Every so often, you catch yourself instinctively holding your breath. Water-breathing is new to you, and while the wizard accompanying you through the depths insists that you’ve got several hours until the spell begins to wear off, you can’t help but be skeptical. You start to express your wonder to him once more when your mouth falls open.

Wrapped in thick bindings of kelp, several waterlogged bodies float lifelessly, warding off intruders by threat of the same fate. From behind, you hear your companion utter hoarsely:
